Laser Skin Resurfacing: What to Expect Before and After

Before Your Treatment

Before your treatment, you will have a consultation with our team to discuss your goals and concerns. They’ll evaluate your skin and determine the best treatment plan. You may be asked to do some prep in the month leading up to your treatment. 

During Your Treatment

At the start of your treatment, the target areas will be thoroughly cleansed, and a topical anesthetic will be applied to minimize discomfort. The laser will then be passed over the treatment areas. Your first treatment may be light to see how your skin responds to the laser.

Non-ablative lasers, such as ResurFX, deliver controlled heat deep into the dermis (the second layer of skin) without damaging or harming the top layer of the skin. This process stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. 

After Your Treatment

Following your ResurFX session, you may experience some redness and mild swelling in the treated area. This is completely normal and should subside within a few days. It is important to avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen to protect your skin during this time.

It is recommended to have multiple sessions spaced about 4–6 weeks apart for optimal results.

In the weeks following your treatment, you will notice smoother, brighter, and more youthful-looking skin as new collagen forms. Results can continue to improve for up to 6 months after your last session.
